**IMPORTANT NOTE**

As mentioned during our last training, do consult the following when you are unsure of any instructions or techniques.

- Chaang
- Zhiliang
- Graham
- Nellie
- Joline
- Senior Flyers
- Guest Instructors.

In view of the upcoming Nationals, I need to reinforce the importance of getting the correct information across. Sometimes you may think that you’re giving the right advice when you’re actually not. And when somebody actually does take your advice (and learns the wrong thing)
it will be your fault.

I take a very serious view of people passing the wrong instructions or/and giving the wrong advice. It is your duty to confirm (with the above) whether the information you are conveying is correct. Henceforth, ignorance will not be tolerated.

JAN 2009 TRAINING SCHEDULE & CHANGE OF TRAININGS TO SUNDAYS

and please be MENTALLY/PSYCHOLOGICALLY prepared to sacrifice your SUNDAYS starting feb, in place for some of the trainings on the weekdays (because people like gary, graham & chaang cant tear themselves apart from their army/work duties) but not to worry abt losing precious time with family since trainings on sundays will be in the morning!

pls feel free to approach the committee(chaang/zhiliang/joline/graham/me) for any questions/suggestions about sunday trainings :)

New members of the committee to welcome the New Year!

Captain

Joline, who's been a member of Wildcards since it's founding. In her three months with us, Joline uncovered her talents and blossomed into the amazing flyer she always had the potential to be. With her to lead us to the upcoming nationals, There'll be much to look forward to =)

Vice Captain

Graham, who has been attending trainings regularly as a guest, and who has recently consented to join us(officially) for the year while he's stuck serving the country. One of the few of our members who has experienced a national cheerleading competition, his experience and skills will come in handy.

Bonding/Training Camp For Wildcards 2008

Thursday, December 25, 2008

Kudos every1! Sorry for the late post but for this coming camp, it will be from:
26th Dec 6pm (Fri) till 28th Dec 10am (Sun).

For the things that u need to bring:
- We would need every1 to bring sufficient cash to makan for the three days due to it being last minute n my laziness in looking for a caterer =P.
- If possible please bring your sleeping bags along for those that plan to be sleeping cuz there is not enough room for every1 to sleep on the couch/sofa/table etc.
- Sufficient clothing to last you for the three days (consider the fact that you need clothing for trainings on friday and saturday).
- Toiletries such as toothbrushes, shampoo, body wash and the etc etc.

Zl, me n HS will be reaching there early around 1pm to set up the place for the camp so any1 that is available before the appointed time can come down earlier to slack together with us ^^.

If there's anything u need to clarify for the camp feel free to contact me or HS. If u cant get to any of us pls let ZL about it.

That's all folks and here's wishing every1 a Merry Christmas! =D

WILDCARDS @ Hereen !

Cheerleading for external events is unlike doing cheerleading for competitions.

Reason: The events person will tell you one story and you will always end up seeing another thing.

Wildcards very first external assignment was a performance for 88.3FM last sat @ Hereen. To our dismay, our supposed (8m x 5m + 7m height clearance ) stage turned out to be Hereen's stage ( formerly where the fountain was ). If this wasn't bad enough, there were many decorations hanging down from the top level ! We had to change the entire routine in 15 min, taking away all basket tosses, fliping motions and gymnastics.

---> Pls wait for jiahui to upload the video.

I swear doing this assignment was a real test of everybody's skill. Toss up hands had to be really STRAIGHT. No room for adjustment. Fall forwards or backwards you will end up hitting the decorations. Fall side ways and you end up falling off the stage.

Notice how the 5 single X's were positioned in such a way that it fitted nicely between the decorations hanging from above.

And because of all the hanging obstacles, the 221 had to be placed right at the edge of the stage.

Ok now for everybody's favourite time ..

Introducing newly promoted mid-tier huishan ! (right shoulder stand) Huishan's first attempt as a mid-tier for this stunt was actually on performance day itself ! Good job !

Split mount

A tale of of an old scorpion (left) vs. a young scorpion (right)

Our performance team for Sat.

Introducing graham !

Our toot co-coach Zhiliang

Chaang + Regine (elegant) = old people's club.

And introducing the ugliest single base scorpion in sg. Elegant can you pls lock your kneeeeee!

Introducing Ivan ! Welcome to the lib-ers club !

Kahau and our team manager Nellie. At a combined height of 3.5 meters. Sehhhhh.

Welcome Isaac + Justine ! Also new lib club member.

It is everybody's effort that our first external performance was so successful. Despite having to juggle work/school/army schedules , despite having to wake up early in the morning to rehearse, despite having only one day to train for the performance.

So long as everybody is focused ..

And work towards a common goal..

The satisfaction of seeing how your efforts pay off is always indescribable

Special kudos to huishan who managed to achieve her stable toss to hands on the day of the performance itself. It can be really scary doing an unfamiliar stunt in front of a huge audience, esp when you can fall off the stage anytime. Wildcards appreciate your presence and efforts. We will grow together as a team. =)

Good job ppl ! All stunts up !

Who.What.When.Where.How.

Thursday, December 18, 2008

One cannot stay long in cheer without some measure of passion. However, the problem with passion is that it only gets us so far... In the way that "power is nothing without control"(G-force), passion is nothing if you do not give it direction.

Who
Everyone on the squad. We call ourself Wildcards. In card games with wildcards, the wildcard would have no face value, yet is able to take the place of any card. In the same way, we should be Wildcards in more then name, able to work with anyone to form a useable hand. Never think that just because you're able to use one flyer/base for a stunt that you've mastered the stunt. Mastering the stunt would mean being able to do that stunt with any flyer/base on the team.

What
Cheerleading. A sport that comprises of stunts, dances, jumps and gymnastics in which strength, flexility and technique is required. There are sites with pretty good info online for those who want to find out more.

When
Wildcards train two times a week, three/four hours a training. Unlike some other teams, we are unable to bring our members through hours of physical training. You guys have to keep in shape by yourselves. consult your coaches if in doubt of what you should be training. If unsure of how to gym, you can ask wei hao, chaang or gary.
During training, keep yourselves productive. When there's a three minutes break, take your break and come back ready for training on the mats. When stunting, don't stunt blindly, if there's a mistake, try to correct it instead of doing it over and over again hoping it'll magically dissapear.

Where
Anywhere, anytime. Be it on the mats, at the gym or at home, there's things you can do to train. When watching tv, stretch! (don't skip, not good for the eyes) flyers also can practice standing on liang teh cans. There's plenty of free time in the day. Every little thing helps!

How
Train smart. As mentioned above, be productive. Easy trainings, Tough competition. Tough trainings, easy competition. Treat every training as you would a performance. Never make the mistake of not going all out on a stunt, thinking that you'll go all out during nationals/performance. What you do normally is burnt into your muscle memory and would occur without you thinking about it.

Why
There would be times when you're burnt out, when you wonder what is it that you're fighting so hard for. This is something we coaches cannot decide for you. You alone choose what your aim in cheerleading is. Dream big! Then work towards that dream. Remember you're never alone, help each other towards your goals and dreams, be it simply reaching a layout or bringing the local cheer scene to the next level. Know that nothing is impossible unless you believe it to be so.

Work hard. Train smart. Create our winning hand.

Lets Welcome the newcomers of Wildcards!!! Huat ar Huat!!!

Ok. This is my first time posting on blog hor so dun flame me pls. Chang make me do it so someone pls kick him for me. Lol

The main topic for today is to welcome the 6 new members who have joined Wildcards. They are:

1. Huiting - Flyer
2. Jaslyn - Flyer
3. Rachael - Flyer
4. Vincent - Base (Like finally -.-!)
5. Yixun - Base
6. Graham - Base & Flyer (o.O*)

We have now, our very own, POWERPUFF GIRLS!!! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Now for the serious part. As a member of Wildcards, I am happy and proud to see our team growing rapidly. This shows that all of us are doing our part in spreading the love of cheerleading as a sport. As long as the spirit of cheer keeps burning in our hearts, we can definitely carry this team towards a further aspiration and bringing it to a higher level. The contribution of each and everyone of you is very important as everyone here are parts of what we call "Wildcards". Do not forget. You are now a Wildcard. Create your winning hand.

WILDCARDS Team Bonding Camp 2008

Hey guys, with the 30th nov performance over and cheerobics 3 months away, we have a little breathing space to do some team bonding! This'll be a great chance to know your teammates more as a person (rather then e.g. that guy who always drips sweats on me or that girl who stepped on my face/kicked me in the unmentionables).

To that end, we'll be having a team bonding camp from the 26th december(Friday) to 28th december(Sunday). Camp planners will be Ivan and Hui Shan(Insert appluase). We'll probably be staying at the YEC place the boss (Domanic) offered. Coming soon: more info by the camp planners =)

CHEER SHOE SUBSIDY !

For the 8 flyers who purchased the Kaepa Aerial shoes, you will receive a $40 subsidy in cash. I will hand you all the money next training.

The reason why I am not giving you all a full subsidy is because only the flyers bought the shoes. We must be fair to the bases la.

Thus, the reminding amount from the subsidy will go to our Wildcards team fund ! I will hand the money over to our beloved team manager Nellie, also the lass who gave me a flying 360 elbow on my forehead and later complain her elbow pain one. knn.

Video for sharing
