Wildcards Annual Stunt Fest 2010

Monday, August 2, 2010

Wildcards Cheerleading Team held its Annual Stunt Fest for the third consecutive year on the 24th of July. Not before the Wildcards put up an exhilarating performance in line of Youth Xtravaganza. Wildcards also had the honour of formally receiving the Singapore National Cheerleading Championship awards for clinching first position in the Open Team Category as well as the Group Stunt Category, both of which were presented by our very own MP for Ulu Pandan, Mr Christopher de Souza.

The main event was the stunt session which followed after and Wildcards is honoured and proud to host the various teams spanning across the Open and High-School category teams. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Denvers Cheerleading Team, Legacy Allstars Cheerleading Team, Gusto, NUS Alpha Verve, Team Genesis, Team Spectrum, X-Wonder and of course not forgetting Eric and Laura from Queens University, Canada for gracing the event.(pardon if i might have left any teams out)

The stunt fest's advocate emphasis was partner stunts. And so, the local cheer scene was able to witness stunts often seen performed by the American cheerleading powerhouses. Full-ups, full-around, cupie pop-overs, liberty tick-tocks, pooper scooper and superman were just a few to begin with. Who'd ever imagine being able to accomplish all these, or even get a whiff of it couple of years ago? Couple of years ago, who'd ever imagine that we'd be seeing an array of cupies? Those who were present at the event would most probably agree with me that it is indeed a rare, but great sight for local cheer as we all know that cheer is picking up the pace(about time) in Singapore. The great leap in improvement not only gives us that slight glimpse of hope that Singapore may actually be recognised and placed on the international map of cheerleading. The event not only proved to be a great time for cheerleaders to come together to exchange tips but also to interact and have fun.

On a side note, i'd like add that as much as a team would love to improve and raise their standards, as long as your team has a closed-door policy, it will forever be of hindrance to your team and self-proficiency. Having said that, i'd like to wish all teams a successful season ahead.

Once again, big thank you to all the teams that participated and we look forward to yet another cheerful year ahead and seeing you again next year!(in case you've missed it!)
