Hi Guys! This will be my first blog post on WCT blog. I'm going to talk about how I got to know about cheerleading and people who helped me along. How it all started ? I was a ex-rower, and I quit because we feel the team wasn't united and not as motivated to train like before. Hence I left the team and went on to do endurance sports like running, etc.

Then when I was tending to the booth for the cca fair for my own cca, we saw the cheerleading interest group, and they went around asking for people who are interested to join. I was not interested at all, but my friend kept pestering me and a bunch of classmates to follow him so we went.

When I hear about the briefing regarding what we are going to do, I was not interested at all. Because I find it gay to be a cheerleader, I was not at all enthusiastic about it and my attendance for trainings were not consistent. I thought training might be very easy for me since I was a ex-rower and had endured hard trainings before so I did not really care much about training up myself as I thought cheerleading was gay and a sport that does not require much strength. Then after a period of time, we were informed of our change of coach, who were Ken and Kahau. When I first saw Ken, I knew he's someone I won't like and Kahau, a totally kind guy. So different from Ken. Hahaha. They told us that we were be going to try for nationals SNCC 2011 and I was not excited at all. At that point of time, I still don't find anything challenging about cheerleading that I wanna conquer it.

During SKM 2010, Ken asked me to go down at Ngee Ann City to catch the performance and see what cheerleading is like. After I watched performance from Legacy, Spintrix etc, I was getting somewhat interested because there were more stunts involved than I expected. Everything was amazing till I saw the guest performance by BU. It blew my mind away and sent chills down my spine! I found cheerleading freaking awesome and strong! After which, I started to get more interested in cheerleading. Ken and Kahau were very patient and kept teaching and guiding us, not forgetting the days we got scolded and f upside down by KEN MOST OF THE TIME. Hahaha!! Nevertheless, they still stood by the team and came up with great routines for the school!

During my time in Genesis, the person that inspired me the most and changed me both physically and mentally as well as my perception about cheerleading was Ken! Firstly, same height! And the things that he taught me was also what he himself did in routines, like shoulder stand and main base. Why I say that is because there was this one time he asked me "Do you want to cheer to win ?" I answered no because I was so used to losing in my life. After a pep talk by him, the winning attitude was drilled into me - it was a life changing moment. Physically, he forced me to gym and train the one major muscle group which I hate - my legs. If it weren't for him, I would never have trained my legs and be able to execute advanced stunts or have the strength to do it. Mentally, he trained me to have a stronger mind such that I won't collapsed under pressure and instead, convert all those stress into positive energy to improve myself in cheerleading. I have always aimed to do the things that he can do and lastly to be like him - to be in Wildcards, national champion team!

Most of the time when we have dinner or outings, I will always ask Ken about cheerleading and he always never refrain from telling me more about cheerleading no matter what the techniques are, the strength involved and how to do this and that. He also made myself realized that cheerleading is not only about strength and techniques, but also the trust between flyers, bases and the team because we are holding a life in our hands, not a dead weight. The base have to do everything to let the flyer feel safe and secure (security like how the parents will protect their child!).

So I thank KEN LIM BAY HONG for changing me so much both physically and mentally; It enabled me to move on in cheer and to get into such a great team! Not forgetting Kahau for being such a patient and kind coach and Isaac, who came at a later stage and also helped in guiding my group stunting techniques!

And my next aim is to be like Lim Hann Bin who have shown me that Wildcards acceleration can improve someone so much in such a short time frame! It gives me the faith that I can accomplish it if I put in my utmost effort and be hardworking! Thank you Wildcards for your patience and your constant encouragement to a freshie like me! Thank you people!
