Revisiting the btoss back tuck

Sunday, September 1, 2013

The btoss backtuck is probably one of the most important foundation in basket tosses. See the above video @ 00.14min. This is my ideal backtuck.

I cannot stress enough on using the ''open early'' method. Throughout my years in coaching, this method has time and again proved to be the crucial factor in laying the foundation to more advanced baskets such as layout fulls and xout fulls.

Invest in your flyers - and avoid the common pit fall of just achieving a mere layout by using short cuts such as ''late execution'' and ''arch backs'', or even worse - asking your front spotter to ''flip'' the toss backwards to help the flyer on her rotation (simply dangerous!).  When you attempt your full elements, such bad habits will eventually return to haunt you.

And you may even have to waste more time to relearn everything from ground zero when you realize the short cuts you took in the past are the stumbling blocks to your progression.

See again at 2.21min - even Kentucky flyers (the one in grey) are using the same method!
