How not to be a sad story...

How not to be a sad story...

Happiness is a skill that can be learned. To acquire this skill, it is necessary to master two basic skills:

1) The ability to focus on happiness-producing thoughts, as opposed to those which cause unhappiness.

2) The ability to evaluate events and situations as positive instead of negative. (Or at least to lower the degree of negativity - i.e. rather than considering some discomfort as a tragedy, evaluating it as minor.)

:) Smile. It makes people around you feel better and happier. *Refer to 24 Nov training w Cheer Infinity*

Exciting new programs!

In the long run, men (&women) hit only what they aim at. Therefore, they had better aim at something high.

JIAYOU

Teletubbie and Jason !

sorry..i don't know to rotate the videos

-_-''

A love letter from elegant

Dear CR,

Dun worry, Wildcards will definitely produce very good results next year!

Its expected that member will feedback that cheer is too “result orientated”. Its normal. I mean which time in your cheer life you never hear of that before? You and I know the reason. The kids know it themselves too. Of cuz some good ones dun mind slowing down to wait for the others to match up, but you and I know time is crucial, and in this sports no one will wait for you. Of cuz everyone deserves a chance. That one I dun deny at all. But when after a million tries and you still dun get it, I thk you can move on. Not that you are lousy when you cant do it. Everyone individual is good at a certain area. Even tho this stunt he or she cant master, I am sure he or she will excel in another area. That is when a coach is needed, to see, to unveil everyone’s potential and put them to the areas that they can do best.

Not every time you can find balance and equilibrium. Everyone is unique. So inevitable, everyone’s pace and success will be different.

You’ve got a good team, the team has a good leader. And with that, I know Wildcards will soar.

I miss cheer too! Of cuz I can come back support support. This month is too packed for me. December will be better. Of cuz and next year too la. Hee, I’l be there for you… VERY SENIOR advisor maaaaaa…

Hahaha, jiayou jiayou! You can if you believe!

Passion

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

All you need is passion. If you have a passion for something, you'll create the talent.

Remember guys; it just comes down to how badly you want it.

Monday, November 9, 2009

Are you seeing what i'm seeing?

Play spot the Chaang game. And for ppl who know old birds like xingwei, zm, weicheng, Jesse, XP, try to spot them too.

Now play spot the Vincent game. If you happen to know Xiwen, Audrey. Yifang, Dion.. etc they're not hard to spot either =P

Well this is definitely not about living in the past, but rather about going back to you roots. Because there is always something to learn from those who came before you.

Your coaches/seniors were once noobs like you. We went through trainings with half the efficiency but double the pain. We also went through the phase of sprained ankles, broken noses and team sad stories. Everyone had their fair share.

Have you, however, learnt the gist behind all these blood, sweat and tears?

Like most hotblooded young men ( I am still young ok -.-), I joined cheerleading simply because the zarbo who asked me to join was damn hot (coming from me sounds normal i know -.-). At that time I knew nothing about cheer, and only a cartwheel which i conveniently traded my two front teeth for when I was a kid.

Then came my very first Nationals with ACES back in 2005 when I realised that there was a very big problem: We had no gymanstics for our routine. We had no proper gym coach. We had no proper training facilities. And we were running out of time

But we sure had the guts to try.

If you still can't spot me, I was the roundoff backhands spring that's on the left of the ACES video. And I only got this tumbling pass 3 days before the competition. Even my coach then ( Jesse, currently coach for Europhia) thought I was mad.

But infront of thousands in Suntec City, the feeling you get when you hit the stunt is indescrible.

The price to pay for this one simple pass was 50 DIY backhands springs after trainings by myself. I always waited till everyone left before I proceeded to the highjump mats to do my backhands springs. Then, the sports stadium would be empty, the lights would be off and the surrounds would be cold.

I refused to go back to hostel until i completed what I set for myself that day. My wrists would turn purple from all that impact. But I just had to do it.

More often than ever, efforts and results hardly equate. Because they are different entities to start of with.

You can now try to play spot the regine game =P

2006 was my last competition with ACES and was also a very memorable one for me. 15 seconds into the routine and I landed wrongly during gymanstics. For the entire routine, my left ankle was pratically hanging. The joker with the ugly toe touch back tuck was me. Yes, I was the idiot who did a toe touch backtuck knowing that my left ankle was gone. That additional impact left me on cruches for almost a month.

Finals then were a week away. I was not part of the winning routine during Nationals 06. One bad landing caused me dearly.

So, what went wrong? Sure I did put in effort and I was harder on myself than I was with anybody else. I concluded that:

1) I was too complacent on my gymnastics
2) I didn't train myself hard enough to take the pain.

For those of you who were here with us during 2008, you might have recalled yifang saying that ''even with 10 successful toss to hands, can you guarantee that your 11th one will definitely hit?''

What has motivated me all these years is a regret that I didn't finish what I was supposed to do. Whatever your motivation may be, I hope that my little life story can let you understand where i am coming from.

See you guys tml!
A note from Chaang

Hi all

Following up from Vincent's debrief yesterday, I have had the privilege of talking to a few of you today to better understand how I can improve trainings and the morale of the team as Nationals draw to a close.

Due to the nature of this team, most of you would have at least 2 national competition experiences. As we all know, Nationals will be a very trying period where you will have to juggle your work/school/cheer in a healthy balance. And we all agree that this will not be easy.

In my 5 years in this sport, I have concluded that there is no one season that is the same. I am changing. You are also changing. As time progresses, it is this change that will create different scenerios and issues that we must learn to face and adapt. Humans, however, are resistant to changes by nature. And I am constantly learning how to adapt to such changes from you guys too.

I must apologise that the fast pace of our trainings has never allowed me to sit down properly to understand each and everyone of your needs and expectations. I am overwhelmed in many aspects. This is the reason why I appreciate feedback from team members like Candy who has helped me sort out some issues we need to address. Everybody plays a part.

I am really quite approachable (don't laugh!). If you are of the opinion that it is better to convey your feelings/feedback via a third channel, please do so by email/sms/phone or a third party (eg: Candy, GARY .. etc etc).

I am also pleased to let you guys know that both our senior flyers will be back to help us for Nationals, so do leverage on their skills & experiences.

Remember: I am not a sad story. You are not a sad story. Let us not lose sight of the goal we set for ourselves at the very beginning.

PS: Kahau, I'm still looking forward to all the member's stunt vid!

Woo, i like this.

Fat legs (Gary) VS LONG legs (Candy)

Saturday, November 7, 2009

HAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAH! Gary bet that he can win me by running on his knees. But he's wrong! My VERY LONG legs can run faster than him! And i get to keep my gaming mouse. LOL. Too bad Gary! Try harder next time!

OH OH OH OH! Anw, i've made another interesting discovery while browsing through FRIENDSTER pictures. I think Weihoe was actually a girl in the past. See the picture below to get what i mean.

Friendship

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Throughout life, we are put up against many tests
Alot of times, we are facing them alone and it might turn out hard to overcome
Friends along the way, they make our burden less heavy, make the road seems shorter and makes the happiness spread wider.

Many a times, we often take for granted this people
many a times when our friendships are put to the test
we take the easy way out. Relationships are formed through fate
Friendships are tested through trials and brotherhood is forged by overcoming this trials
Friendship is like a diamond, Unless it can pass through the hottest searing flame, polished with utmost patience and the most skilled hand can it become a fine diamond.

Treasure your friends, be there as though u know they would do the same in return
When was the last time u helped a friend in need??

-Winston

10000hrs

Get your hands on this book if you have the chance

Malcolm Gladwell poses a more provocative question in Outliers: why do some people succeed, living remarkably productive and impactful lives, while so many more never reach their potential?

One of the interesting points is 10,000 hrs of practice are required to achieve a level of expertise.

This idea - that excellence at a complex task requires a critical, minimum level of practice - surfaces again and again in studies of expertise. In fact, researchers have settled on what they believe is a magic number for true expertise: 10,000 hours.

"In study after study, of composers, basketball players, fiction writers, ice-skaters, concert pianists, chess players, master criminals," writes the neurologist Daniel Levitin, "this number comes up again and again. Ten thousand hours is equivalent to roughly three hours a day, or 20 hours a week, of practice over 10 years... No one has yet found a case in which true world-class expertise was accomplished in less time. It seems that it takes the brain this long to assimilate all that it needs to know to achieve true mastery."

Perhaps this will give all of us an idea of how long one can take to be truly world-class cheerleaders - 10,000hrs. I am pretty sure most high level cheerleaders we know have clocked much more hours in training to reach this greatness. Age might be a factor, but its never too late to start. Which is what is keeping me going till today and to the future.
